Today I took in the sights and sounds and especially the aroma of Nickerson State Park after another rain storm. Sunshine and a light breeze helped give the sense of the earth breathing.

I took a 4 mile walk on the Cape Cod Rail Trail this morning.
It was teeming with life! There were healthy grasses and clover as well as very mature garlic mustard and other invasive plants. There were birds and bunnies and who knows what in the more wooded areas.
I came across a number of slugs crossing the path, leaving their distinctive trail chronicling their travel. Sometimes it appeared they changed their minds part way, or maybe lost their sense of direction. How many finished their race to the other side ahead of the rising sun or before becoming a morning snack, I don’t know.
Each season allows a different layer of beauty to go on display. The young vegetation from my spring visit is dead; the lively green replaced by multicolored leaves. The branches that filtered the morning sun now provide texture to dull grey sky. Even the shapes and grains of bark and branches have a harder, dryer edge.
I walked on the Red Maple Swamp Trail this morning.  The boardwalk connects to the Fort Hill Trail and surrounding area.
I’m sure this is a very colorful area in the fall, Today’s display was full of interesting plants in bloom as well as ferns and a variety of trees.
I took a walk this morning on the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp Trail in Wellfleet.
It was an interesting walk. I enjoyed the bright morning light and the early growth of the plants and trees. As the trail meandered closer to the swamp the light and vegetation became denser. The objects the moss grew on became eerily defined. And the reflections on the swamp water were haunting.
Planning on coming back here soon.
