Thinking of Thoreau

My time at the cranberry bog taking pictures of the milkweed made me think of Henry David Thoreau.

“Though I do not believe a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders”  –Henry David Thoreau

Cranberry Bog

The cranberry bog was being harvested this weekend. I stopped by early Sunday morning before the work continued. There was a steady wind all night which helped gather the berries to one end, providing an interesting color contrast on the flooded bog and surrounding grass.

The steady wind also helped spread the seeds of the milk weed, which grows along the edge of the bog,
