Seaweed is apparently not tourist friendly. So much effort is employed to remove it from the beaches to give them a pleasant appearance. Of course, no matter how well raked the seaweed is literally only a step away in the water. And, where there is seaweed, there are shells. And where there are shells, there are sea gulls. I’m not a scientist but I think I’m fairly accurate with all this.

I do know of beach naps and I had a helluva one late this afternoon. The tide was in and piles of seaweed washed up on the sand. The calm waves that lapped the shore had a different sound, a muted timber, if you will. It was a fuller, thicker sound luring me into a meditative state and then into sleep as the gulls fed upon the pilings of seaweed.
